O společnosti
Klarna has built one of the largest commerce networks in the world, measured by the number of consumers and merchants. As of December 31, 2024, the company served approximately 93 million active Klarna consumers and more than 675,000 merchants across 26 countries, facilitating $105 billion in gross merchandise volume (GMV) in 2024. Klarna's flexible and personalized products, trusted consumer brand, global distribution, and proprietary scalable infrastructure form the foundation that enables it to serve as an everyday spending and saving partner for consumers, available across various transactions. Throughout its history, Klarna has consistently innovated and challenged the status quo, evolving from a consumer-focused payments tool into a global commerce network that supports merchant success.
Klarna was established to address numerous challenges in modern commerce, including inefficiency, lack of trust, fraud, impersonal consumer-merchant relationships, and high-interest credit-related fees that negatively impact consumers, merchants, and society at large.
The company pioneered a new approach to online payments, designed to mitigate transaction uncertainty between consumers and merchants by providing short-term, interest-free credit to consumers while accelerating merchant growth. Klarna's approach leverages differentiated underwriting capabilities, utilizes bank deposits and other low-cost funding sources, and monetizes primarily by increasing GMV for merchants rather than by charging interest to consumers. In 2024, 99% of transactions conducted on Klarna's network were interest-free. This structure results in lower fees, which Klarna believes encourages consumers—and subsequently merchants—to conduct more commerce through its network, aligning the financial success of both parties with the company's long-term ambition for sustainable growth. Additionally, Klarna has developed a unique advertising solution, connecting engaged consumers with advertisers in a personalized, commerce-driven environment.
